PostFX™ Prepaid MasterCard® Currency Card Terms and Conditions

* Some ATM operators or merchants may charge a(n) (additional) fee or set their own limits. Please confirm whether any fees or limits apply, before making a withdrawal or purchase.
** Please note that the Government of Ireland charges an annual stamp duty on prepaid card accounts. There is a €2.50 fee every year if the Card is used in an ATM. There is also another €2.50 fee every year if the Card is used in a point of sale transaction.
*** The total amount you may load onto all prepaid cards issued to you by us during any twelve (12) month period.
+ The issuer will waive such fee if there is no remaining balance following the debit of any monthly inactivity fee (or if the balance is less than the fee).

Merchant transactions and ATM withdrawals in a currency other than the currency of the Card will be exchanged to the currency on the Currency Card at an exchange rate determined by MasterCard® on the day the transaction is processed, increased by 5.75%.

    The PostFX™ Currency Card is a chip & pin prepaid MasterCard® card which can be used at any merchant and ATM worldwide displaying the MasterCard Acceptance Mark.

  3. What Currencies does An Post Offer?
    The PostFX™ Currency Card is available in UK Sterling, US Dollars, Canadian Dollars and Australian Dollars. Purchases must be made in Euro.
  4. Does the Card issue instantly?
    Yes, the PostFX™ Currency Card is issued to you instantly.
  5. What ID is required to open an account?
    There are two ID forms required to open a PostFX™ Currency Card:
    Proof of name: Passport or EU driving licence
    Proof of address: Utility bill, Rev Comm, or DSFA doc not more than 6 months old.
  6. Can the Card be reloaded?
    Yes, the PostFX™ Currency Card can be reloaded at any participating Post Office. The account holder is the only person who can only lodge funds.
  7. What ID is required to Top Up?
    To top up a PostFX™ Currency Card a Passport or EU drivers licence must be presented. The proof of Name ID is an AML requirement from MasterCard® and is part of card rules. Minimum amount euro equivalent of £85, $130, AU$170 and CA$170. 
  8. Can funds be withdrawn from the Card?
    The PostFX™ Currency Card can be cashed out (remaining cash withdrawn) at any participating PostFX™ Currency Card Post Office. The funds will be cashed out to you in Euro. An EU drivers licence or Passport is required on amounts over €500.
  9. What is the lifetime of the PostFX™ Currency Card?
    The PostFX™ card is valid for up to 5 years.
  10. How can the PostFX™ Currency Card be purchased?
    There are two acceptable methods of payments for the PostFX™ Currency Card which are Euro cash or debit card.
  11. What is the maximum amount that can be loaded?
    The max amount that can be loaded and max balance at any one time is £5,000 Sterling, $9,000 US dollars, AU$10,000 or CA$10,000 for a single transaction. Maximum amount loaded over 12 months is £18,000 Sterling, $30,000 US Dollars, AU$36,000 or CA$36,000. The euro equivalent must be tendered onto the card.
  12. What is the minimum amount that can be loaded?
    The minimum amount that can be loaded is £85 Sterling, $130 US Dollars, AU$170 or CA$170. This should work out to be around €100 depending on the exchange rate at time of purchase.
  13. Can I get an additional Card?
    Yes, customers can avail of an additional Card at the time of the initial purchase. The cardholder who opened the card is the only person that can top up the card after purchase.
  14. How long does it take to get the additional PostFX™ Currency Card?
    The PostFX™ additional card is given to the customer upon completion of the PostFX™ transaction.
  15. What exchange rates apply to the PostFX™ Currency Card?
    The An Post foreign exchange daily sell rate for Sterling and dollar is applied at the date of purchase and used when purchasing the PostFX™ Currency Card . Exchange rates are updated in post offices on a daily basis.

  16. What Fees apply?
    Use in shops EPOS is FREE.
    Fees are only applied to ATM withdrawals as per below:
    £1.50 Sterling, $2.50 US Dollars, AU$3.50 or CA$3.25  per withdrawal.
    Where the Card is used in a country that operates in a currency other than that on the card, transactions are charged at exchange rate of the day plus 5.75%. Please note that the Government of Ireland charges an annual stamp duty on prepaid card accounts. There is a €2.50 fee every year if the card is used in an ATM. There is also another €2.50 fee every year if the card is used in a point of sale transaction. Charges apply when there is a balance on the card at 31st December.

  18. How can a customer check their balance?
    Customers can check their balance on line by registering their card at www.cashpassport.com or in their local participating Post Office.

    *Note if a customer has used their Driving Licence to setup an account they must state
    ‘EU Driving Licence’ when registering proof of name on line.
  19. What if I have trouble registering my PostFX ™ Currency Card on Cashpassport?
    If you used your EU Drivers Licence as photo identity when purchasing the PostFX™ Currency Card, you must enter fully “EU Driving Licence” into the section that asks what form of ID you used when registering.     Yes, the card can be used on purchases made online or over the phone where ever MasterCard® is accepted.

    Customers can take their PostFX™ Currency Card to their local participating Post Office and cash out the remaining balance into Euros with that day's exchange rate.
