Family history

In terms of genealogical research, the An Post archive holds an assortment of records relating to staff employed by the Post Office in Ireland. The existence of records from particular offices has been determined largely by chance, however, and supplementary enquiries to the following institutions may yield information that does not exist in the An Post archive:

-       For family history research into employees appointed prior to 1922, information may sometimes be found in the British Postal Museum and Archive.

-       For information relating to staff who worked for the Department of Posts and Telegraphs from its creation in 1922 until the 1st January 1984, when An Post was assigned responsibility for the postal service, enquiries should be made to the Department of Communications.
