Visit to Kildare Place School
We are always anxious to promote the history and heritage of An Post and that is why we were delighted to accept recently an invitation from the the Kildare Place School, Rathmines, Dublin to visit the school and talk to some of their very enthusiastic pupils.
Stephen Ferguson visited the school and talked to the pupils about the history of the Post Office and asked them to design a stamp. You can read below Stephen's account of his visit and view some of the very imaginative designs which the pupils produced for Stephen.

'''Recently I was invited to Kildare Place School in Dublin to talk to the children of 3rd class about the Post Office and all the things it has been associated with over the years. We covered a lot of ground - from the Penny Black stamp to the 1916 Rising in the GPO and from robberies and post boxes to the Post Office Savings Bank - and I was very impressed with the talented actors and actresses who helped me out with a little bit of drama!
Naturally we spent a few minutes on stamps, how they are made and designed and how stamp collecting has been a favourite hobby for young and old for a very long time. I left the pupils with a challenge, to design a stamp for me. I was delighted with the variety of designs and imagination shown on the pictures passed on to me by their teacher. Well done everyone!
It was hard to pick the top artists from such a group but the designs shown on the page through this little account were the ones I liked best. Maybe some day one of these talented pupils will design a real stamp for An Post!''
We would like to thank all of the pupils for the excellent drawings we received and to thank the teachers and pupils for the very warm welcome extended to us on our visit to Kildare Place School.
