Take the first step

A major new TV and cinema advertising campaign, researched, developed and sponsored by An Post, and the first of its kind in Ireland, marked the opening of National Adult Literacy Awareness Week (September 24th – 28th 2007). For more information call 1800 20 20 65

The advertisements profile three individuals who have overcome their difficulties with reading, writing and working with numbers and are intended to encourage people with literacy difficulties to make contact with service providers by ringing the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) freephone support line.

According to the last international survey about half a million Irish adults have problems with basic reading, writing and maths.

The National Adult Literacy Agency:
The National Adult Literacy Agency is an independent membership organization, concerned with developing policy, advocacy, research and offering advisory services in adult literacy work in Ireland. NALA was established in 1980 and has campaigned since then for the recognition of, and response to, the adult literacy issue in Ireland.

The three 30-second advertisements were developed and created by Javelin, in consultation with NALA and An Post and shot by Red Rage Films at various locations in Dublin.

The Chain

‘The Chain’ is the latest ad for An Post which tells the story of aspiring author, Adam Hogan and how some magic mail moments combine to realise his dream of publishing a book.

It does this against the backdrop of a series of alternating characters which we see to be connected by the weird and wonderful items they send and receive through the post.

The ad is about human connections: how An Post connects these people but also how ultimately everyone is connected and how there are no more than six degrees of separation between any of us.

The ad is directed by Academy Award nominee Gary McKendry and features the track ‘A Message to You Rudy’ performed by Amber Music and popularised by the Specials.
