How does it work?

Simply bring your item to your local participating Post Office* Make sure your item is correctly addressed, include your phone number on the label provided. You can pay for the service with cash or debit card.

Track your item online using the reference number on your receipt at www.anpost.ie or call our Customer Service Centre on 01-855 0000.

Same Day items can be delivered to anywhere in Dublin 1 – 24, plus Blackrock and Dun Laoghaire.

    • Minimum: Lenght 140mm; Width 90mm ; Depth 0.18mm (with a tolerance of 2mm)
    • Maximum : Lenght 400mm; Width 300mm; Depth 25mm
  • Packets
    • Minimum dimensions: 100mm (L) X 70mm (H) X 25mm (D).
    • Maximum dimensions: for a packet are a combined lenght, height and depth of 900mm.
      No individual dimension can exceed 600mm, with a tolerance of 2mm. In tube form the maximum dimensions are the lenght plus twice the diameter 1,040mm with no one exceeding 900mm, with a tolerance of 2mm

Same Day Courier Service [Dublin Pilot Phase] - Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions apply to An Post’s Same Day Courier Service (hereinafter referred to as the "Service"). The Service is a courier service provided by An Post in conjunction with Our agents Kesslin Ltd. trading as Wheels Couriers. 

  1. In these Terms and Conditions
    1. “You” and “Your” refer to the user(s) of the Service and “We”, “Us” and “Our” refer to An Post, having its registered office at GPO, O’Connell Street Lower, Dublin 1, and our servants and agents. 
    2. “Courier Item” means a Letter or Packet accepted for transmission using the Service
    3. “Guaranteed Delivery Time” is the time by which We will have first attempted to deliver Your Courier Item at the indicated address
    4. “Jewellery” means
      1. gold, silver, or platinum or other precious metal in a manufactured state, that is to say, a state in which value is added to the raw material by skilled workmanship, and includes any coins used or designed for the purposes of ornament;
      2. diamonds and precious stones;
      3. watches, the cases of which are entirely or mainly composed of gold, silver or platinum or other precious metal; and
      4. any article of a like nature which, apart from workmanship, has an intrinsic or marketable value.
    5. “Latest Acceptance Time” is the time or times by which any items that You wish to send using the Service must be presented, accepted, paid for and fully processed in order to avail of the Service
    6. “Letter” means an item with a minimum dimension of 90 millimetres x 140 millimetres x 0.18 millimetres with a tolerance of 2 millimetres and a maximum dimension 300 millimetres x 400 millimetres x 25 millimetres.
    7. “Packet” is an item (which is not a Letter) with minimum dimensions of 70 millimetres x 100 millimetres x 25 millimetres and maximum dimensions of length, width and depth combined of 900 millimetres; tolerance 2 millimetres and greatest dimension not exceeding 600 millimetres with a tolerance of 2 millimetres (In roll form; length and twice diameter, 1040 millimetres, greatest dimension not exceeding 900 millimetres) with a tolerance of 2 millimetres.
    8. “Working Day” is any day other than a Saturday or a Sunday or a public and/or bank holiday.
  2. The Service is a courier service offering same-day delivery from participating post offices to selected postal areas in Dublin. An Post is not a common carrier and accepts goods for carriage upon that condition.
  3. The Service is available in participating Post Offices only. The Service is only available up to the Latest Acceptance Time applicable in each participating Post Office.. The list of participating Post Offices is subject to change. The Service provides delivery to selected areas only.  The available delivery areas are subject to change.   4. The Service is only available on Working Days.
  5. The Service is not available for items addressed to a PO Box.
  6. The Service is available for delivery of Letters and Packets with a weight not exceeding 2 kilogrammes and which comply with the limitations and restrictions on dimensions of Letters and Packets as set out at Condition 1.
  7. The Service is not available in respect of any item which is outside of the maximum dimensions or weight set out in Condition 5 or which contains any of the prohibited items set out in the First Schedule attached to these Terms and Conditions.
  8. The sender of a Courier Item which contravenes Conditions 5 and/or 6 shall be liable for all costs incurred in its disposal and for all loss arising from damage or injury to other Courier Items or to Our staff or agents or equipment or for loss arising from delays or disruption to the Service. In these circumstances We will, notwithstanding the terms of Condition 11, have no obligation to return the offending Courier Item to the sender or to deliver it and We may dispose of it as We think fit and We shall incur no liability to the sender.
  9. Packing: Any article contained in a Courier Item shall be adequately packed as a protection against loss or damage in course of conveyance and in particular: 
    1. An article which is of a fragile nature shall be packed in a container of sufficient strength and shall be surrounded in that container with sufficient and suitable material to protect the article against the effect of such concussion, pressure and knocks to which all items are ordinarily exposed in the course of conveyance, and the Courier Item shall bear the words ‘FRAGILE WITH CARE’ written conspicuously in capital letters on the face of the cover above the address.
       
    2. An article which is liable to be damaged by bending shall be packed in a container of sufficient strength to prevent the article from being bent in transmission by post, and the Courier Item shall bear the words ‘DO NOT BEND’ written conspicuously in capital letters on the face of the cover above the address.
       
      You shall indemnify An Post against any and all loss that you may incur arising from any failure to comply with this Condition.
  10. To avail of the Service You must
    1. Present Your Courier Item at a participating Post Office before the Latest Acceptance Time for that Post Office. 
    2. Ensure that Your Courier Item is adequately and properly packaged in accordance with Condition 8.
    3. Ensure that Your Courier Item includes delivery details, prominently displayed on the front of the item, which should include the intended recipient’s name and a full and clear address for delivery. 
    4. Ensure that a return address is clearly displayed on Your Courier Item. 
    5. Provide Us with your name and a phone number which will be used to contact You in relation to any matters concerning the delivery of Your Courier Item. 
    6. Pay for the Service by cash or debit card.
  11. We will make up to three attempts to deliver Your Courier Item. The first attempt will be made no later than the Guaranteed Delivery Time. Any subsequent delivery attempts will be made as soon as practical thereafter on the same or a subsequent Working Day. The Courier item may be delivered without a signature upon specific instructions of the sender.
  12. Your Courier item will only be delivered to the address indicated on the front of your Courier item. Under no circumstances will your Courier item be returned to sender or re-directed. Any non-delivery will be dealt with as per clause 13 below.
  13. Where due delivery cannot be completed, or where the Courier Item exceeds the maximum dimensions or weight specified in Condition 5 We may treat the Courier Item as follows:
    1. We may leave a docket at the address of the addressee indicating where and when the Courier Item may be collected. In the event that the Courier Item is not collected within a period of one (1) month of the date that the Courier Item was first accepted under the Service the Courier Item may be dealt with or disposed of in such manner as We may in Our discretion decide
    2. Where the name of the sender cannot be ascertained the Courier Item may be retained pending a claim from the sender or addressee. In the absence of any claim within a period of one (1) month of the date that the Courier Item was first accepted under the Service the Courier Item may be dealt with or disposed of in such manner as We may in Our discretion decide.
    3. Any Courier Item in Our possession which becomes offensive or injurious to any person, or to other items or equipment, or which is likely from its character or condition to become offensive or injurious as aforesaid, or to become valueless before it can be delivered or otherwise dealt with in accordance with the provisions of these Terms and Conditions, may forthwith be dealt with or disposed of in such manner as We may in Our discretion decide, notwithstanding that any other provisions of these Terms and Conditions have not been, or have only partially been, complied with.
  14. We reserve the right to decline an application for the Service or to cancel, discontinue or terminate the Service at Our absolute discretion. In any such event We will refund any fees paid for the Service but will have no further liability. 
  15.  If We are unable to provide the Service any refund due to You will be made in the same manner that You originally made payment to Us.
  16. Compensation for Loss and Damage:
    1. Save as otherwise provided in these Terms and Conditions, We shall have no liability to the sender or to the addressee of any Courier Item lost, damaged or delayed in course of transmission using the Service
    2. No compensation shall be paid in respect of any indirect or consequential loss in respect of the loss, damage, delay, non-delivery or mis-delivery of any item sent using the Service.
    3. If any Courier Item is delayed, such that the first attempt to deliver the Courier Item takes place after the Guaranteed Delivery Time then We will refund any payment made by You to Us in respect of the Courier Item but We will have no further liability to You.
    4. If the first attempt to deliver the Courier Item is unsuccessful we will not be liable for any delays arising, save where We fail to make further attempts to deliver in accordance with Our obligations under these Terms and Conditions, or where there is any undue delay in attempting further deliveries, and in these circumstances we will refund any payment made by You to Us in respect of the Courier Item but We will have no further liability to You. 
    5. Subject to Condition 14 (i), if any Courier Item is lost or damaged whilst in the custody of Us or Our agents We will pay compensation (having regard to the nature of the article, the care with which it was packed, and any other circumstances) up to a maximum amount of €350, to any person or persons who establishes a reasonable claim to compensation.
    6. Any compensation paid may include the cost of the fee paid to avail of the Service, the cost of the cover or packaging, and a small sum in respect of any other costs.
    7. Unless otherwise provided in these Terms and Conditions, in no event may the amount of compensation exceed €350.
    8. Compensation shall not be paid for:
      1. Documents of any kind
      2. Any items included in the list set out in the Second Schedule of these Terms and Conditions;
      3. Loss of or damage to a Courier Item containing anything prohibited under the terms of the First Schedule of these Terms and Conditions;
      4. Loss or damage arising from events outside the control of An Post;
      5. Damage to Courier Items containing eggs, soft fruit, liquids, glass, ceramics, works of art, or any article of an exceptionally fragile nature.
      6. Any loss or damage arising from a failure to comply with Conditions 5 or 6
      7. Any loss or damage arising from the seizure or interception  of a Courier Item by any person or persons acting with lawful authority
      8. Any loss or damage to a Courier Item if the sender or addressee fails to take delivery within the relevant periods required by Condition 11(a) or 11(b). 
    9. Any claim for compensation must be made within (1) month of the date that the Courier Item was first accepted by Us under the Service and must include documentary evidence of the value of the contents of the item.   17. This Agreement is governed by the laws of Ireland and is subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish Courts.

 

 

FIRST SCHEDULE

List of Prohibited Items
  1. The following definitions apply to this Schedule
    1. “Clinical Wastes” means wastes derived from the medical treatment of animals or humans or from bio-research.
    2. “Infectious Substances” means substances which are known or are reasonably expected to contain Pathogens, and including infectious substances affecting humans, infectious substances affecting humans and animals, infectious substances affecting animals only, Clinical Wastes and biological specimens;
    3. “Pathogens” means micro-organisms (including bacteria, viruses, rickettsia, parasites, fungi) and other agents such as prions, which can cause disease in humans or animals.
  2. The following items may not be included in a Courier Item:
    1. Any item consisting of or containing any indecent or obscene print, painting, photograph, lithograph, cinematograph film, engraving, book or card, or any other indecent or obscene article, whether similar to the above or not; 
    2. Any item consisting of, or containing any dangerous, toxic, poisonous, noxious or deleterious substance or any Infectious Substances
    3. Any item consisting of or containing corrosives, acids, paint removers, oxidising substances or organic peroxides, compressed liquidized or dissolved gases, dry ice,  flammable solids or liquids, materials liable to spontaneous combustion, paints, varnishes, dyes, radioactive materials, living creatures, prescribed or dangerous drugs, mercury materials, organic or biological materials likely to perish in transit;
    4. Explosive substances of any type;
    5. Firearms, military ordnance, replica firearms, replica or inert explosive devices
    6. Sharp instruments not properly protected, or any article or thing which is likely to injure any item or equipment or person in course of conveyance
    7. Counterfeit or pirated items
  3. We will not accept any item for transmission having thereon, or on the cover or packaging thereof, any words, marks, or designs of an indecent, obscene or offensive character;

SECOND SCHEDULE

Items Excluded from Compensation under this Service

1. Cash and/or Coins (whether or not legal tender in the State or elsewhere)
2. Bank Drafts
3. Vouchers or Tickets with monetary face value
4. Postage stamps
5. Passports or Visas
6. Jewellery.
7. Precious metals such as platinum, gold or silver, whether in the form of a finished article or not.
