What kind of Identification do I need to open an account?
In accordance with the anti-money laundering provisions of the Crimanal Justice Act 1994, investors must quote their date of birth and may be required to provide proof of (1) name and (2) address, as below.
In accordance with the Finance Act 2004, existing customers must quote a current An Post account number. New customers must provide proof of (1) name, (2) address and (3) PPS No., as below. New customers not resident in the Republic of Ireland must also provide copies of proofs to accompany each application.
Investment applictions that are not accompanied by the relevant documentation will not be accepted.
Examples of Acceptable Forms of Identification
Please note that proof of name, address and PPS No. must be provided from separate sources.
(1) Proof of Name
- Current Passport
- Current EU Driving Licence with photograph
- Identification form (ML 10) with photograph issued by An Garda Siochana
- Current ID Card with photograph from a employer/company (A bus pass is not acceptable)
- Current Student ID Card with photograph issued by a recognised third level college (A USIT/ISIC student card is not acceptable)
- Department of Social & Family Affairs Benefit Book/Social Services Card - acceptable only at the Post Office where the Customer transacts Social Welfare Payments.
(2) Proof of Address
- Recent (within the previous six months) original household bill in customer's name (e.g. ESB, Phone, Gas)
- Existing An Post Savings/Investment document in customer's name
- Recent original Bank/Building Society/Credit Union statement in customer's name
- Pension/Benefit book issued by the Department of Social & Family Affairs (if not already used as proof of name)
- Original Notice of Determination for Tax Credit
- Original Social Insurance documents
- Original Revenue Commissioners C2 Tax Certificate
- Entry in TV licence index
(3) Proof of PPS No. (Tax Identification Number)
- Official document from the Revenue Commissioners or the Department of Social and Family Affairs which shows the customer's name, address and PPS No. (or equivalent document in the case of non-residents)
If proof of PPS No. cannot be provided, proof of date and place of birth must be provided, for example:
- Current Passport
- Current EU Driving Licence with photograph
- Birth Certificate
