Registered Post

Sending valuable items? Need proof your delivery got there? Registered Post provides secure delivery worldwide*.  It allows you to track your delivery and provides you with a signature online for deliveries in Ireland and most European countries.

* Service availability is dependent on the postal administration in the destination country.

How does it work?

Simply visit your local Post Office and pick up a Registered Post label. Your post will get priority handling and is insured too, giving you peace of mind from the moment you hand over your item.

 

Step by step

What does it offer?

  • Secure delivery for valuable items.  (No cash/money, jewellery or passports accepted in items over 2kg)
  • Scheduled delivery to over 200 destinations worldwide.
  • Track your delivery online in certain countries.
  • Recipient signature available online**
  • Insurance cover included up to
    • €320 - Ireland & UK
    • €150 - Europe*
    • €100 for Parcels & €35 for all other items outside of Europe
  • Additional insurance is available for items posted within the Republic of Ireland.  A charge of €4 is applicable for cover up to €1,500 and a charge of €5 for cover up to €2,000.

    *Rates may differ for international destinations.  Insurance is based on declared value of item at time of posting.

    How do I use it?

    • Bring your item to any Post Office.
    • Attach the Registered Label and pay the appropriate postage
    • Complete the appropriate customs declaration documentation for international items      

    Before you post:

    • Ask for a Registered Post label at your local Post Office.  
    • Declare the accurate value of the item you are sending.
    • Attach the correct postage on to your item.
    • Hand the item over the counter.
    • Your transaction receipt is proof of posting and includes the Track & Trace ID number to track your item
    • If you require evidence to whom the item was sent please ask for a Certificate of Posting at the time of posting

    Sending money?

      • We recommend that you avoid sending money by post.  An Post offers a range of services to transfer money.
      • If you have to send money by post, you should use a Registered Post envelope available at local Post Office for a fee of €6.00 which covers postage upto 100g within Ireland.

    After you post:

      • You can track your post online, within certain countries*
      • You can also view the signature of the recipient online for deliveries in Ireland and most European countries*
      • Where information is not available online delivery confirmation is available on request from Customer Service 1850 57 58 59.

    Don't forget:

      • Check the packing regulations and post restrictions

    Insurance and compensation:

      • Insurance cover varies according to country
      • Insurance cover is not available for certain items including documents, glass and other fragile items. A full list of items which cannot be insured is available by contacting Customer Services on CallSave 1850 57 58 59.

    Loss, Damage or Delay - what do I do?

    Keep your transaction receipt (or certificate of posting, where applicable) in a safe place as claims cannot be processed without it. As well as proof of posting, your receipt also contains the item number and date of posting. Remember inquiries must be made within one month of posting or two months for international enquiries.

    Enquiries and concerns about registered items can be made by writing to An Post Customer Services, Address: GPO, Dublin 1, by calling Customer Services 1850 57 58 59 or by completing the Missing, Delayed or Damaged form. (This form must be completed by sender). Please note that enquiries regarding items posted to or from other countries may take some time resolve.

    Compensation
    In the event that your registered item is not received by the addressee, An Post will compensate you subject to An Post general conditions and the conditions contained within the Guide to An Post Services, a copy of which is available at every Post Office. An Post must be satisfied that the loss or damage occurred in the post, as compensation is not payable through a cause outside the control of An Post.
    No cash/money, jewellery or passports can be accepted in items over 2kg.

    1. When registering an item ensure to declare its replacement value as compensation rates are related to the declared value and registration fee paid. Where no value is declared a maximum of €25.39 is payable.
    2. An Post reserves the right to return the contents of a registered item instead of paying compensation. Compensation paid will not exceed the replacement value of the article lost or of damages sustained.
    3. Compensation is not paid for any consequential loss damage or injury arising from the loss, delay, non-delivery or mis-delivery of Registered Post.
    4. Compensation with regard to coin is limited to €12.70.
    5. Compensation cover varies by country of destination and can be checked before posting in the Guide to An Post Services available at your local Post Office counter.
