The Tiger roars once again

The Tiger roars once again!

An Post celebrated the Chinese New Year of the Tiger by issuing a new 82c stamp which covers letter postage to any part of the world . The stamp shows an image of a tiger from an 18th century Tibetan-Buddhist painting currently on display at the National Museum of Ireland.

Those born in a Year of the Tiger are said to be born leaders, courageous, confident, noble and fearless.   The Tiger also has an alluring personality and is a social and friendly creature but can be self-centred and short tempered.

Well known Tigers include Terry Wogan (1938), Neil Jordan (1950), actor Gabriel Byrne (1950), Ray Houghton (1962), Tony Cascarino (1962), Máire Geoghegan-Quinn (1950), Keith Duffy (1974) and Singer Rihanna (1988).

Diplomatic relations between Ireland and China began in June 1979 and since then bilateral trade has grown from US $5.1 million to more than
US $7 billion.
