Energy Savings at An Post
An Post is the world’s most improved postal operation in terms of Sustainability. Well done to all involved and let’s keep up the good work!
Who is responsible for this?
Everybody in the Company has a part to play but responsibility for making improvement within thebusiness lies with An Post Energy Team. Their main focus is on greening operations in the workplace.
Dramatic improvements
When An Post joined the International Post Corporation’s (IPC) Environmental Measuring and Monitoring System (EMMS), it was ranked at number 22 in the world. Since then it has rocketed to 14th position.
An Post’s achievements so far include:
- Continued investment in improved lighting controls in a number of key offices, which resulted in 800MWh of annual savings
- The Building Management System (BMS) in the Cork and Athlone Mails Centres were upgraded to improve control of our energy consumption – this resulted in 124MWh of annual savings
- The BMS in the GPO was upgraded to include additional temperature sensors and a new control panel which resulted in 51MWh annual savings
- Improved staff communication and awareness resulted in savings of 1,525MWh annually
- Fuel consumption testing was completed for the HGV Fleet
- 1,000 drivers completed an Assessment and Training course.
Can we do better?
Yes we can! The Energy Team’s target is to achieve a 20% reduction in CO2 levels and a 30% reduction in energy usage by 2020.
