Stamp your mark on 2015!

09/01/2013

Do you ever wonder how the images and themes of our beautiful Irish stamps are chosen?

Many months of design work and careful planning go into the annual Commemorative Stamp Programme which is produced by An Post on behalf of the Irish Government.

Ideas and stamp concepts are considered at least two years in advance of production, so now is the time to submit your thoughts to the Stamp Suggestion Programme 2015.

All suggestions and recommendations received are vetted by the independent Philatelic Advisory Committee (PAC). After the initial process, the proposals are then submitted to the Board of An Post for approval, with final approval made by the Irish Government. The design process can then commence under the direction of the Stamp Design Advisory Committee (SDAC), who are responsible for commissioning designs and seeing them through to production.

In 2012, 37 new commemorative stamps (45 including definitives) were produced by An Post covering milestone anniversaries such as the Centenary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic, the 150th Anniversary of the Dublin Fire Brigade and the 50th Anniversary of Barnardos Ireland. If the 2012 issues have inspired you, the Philatelic Advisory Committee would love to hear your suggestions!
