The interactive exhibition tells the story of Irish life before the 1916 Rising, the events of Easter Week 1916 and the aftermath of the Rising.
The GPO Witness History Visitor Centre is located right inside the GPO. As well as telling the story of the 1916 Easter Rising, there’s also lots of information about role of the Irish Post Office at that time.
Things to do at the GPO Witness History Visitor Centre:
- Learn all about the GPO and about the part the building and its staff played in the 1916 Rising
- Read letters from hundreds of years ago that describe what life was like back in the olden days
- See the old uniform that all the postmen had to wear every day to work
- Discover how the Post Office helped people to keep in touch, not only with letters and cards, but by telephone too
- Design your own stamps.
The GPO Witness History Visitor Centre shows how the GPO was at the centre of events during the 1916 Rising. It also shows how the Post Office really is one of the most important parts of Irish life, from long ago right up to today.
