Things to do at your Post Office

This section informs students about the different things they can do at their local Post Office such as sending letters, topping up and exchanging currencies.

This lesson plan activity can be included in the student's geography lesson. The students are asked to guess the names of countries on a map of Europe, by looking at and identifying the flag and a stamp from each country.

On this page students are informed about the different sizes of mail available for posting and how to determine their cost depending on where they are going.

We recommend this activity be used alongside the maths lesson. A table of postage rates for home and abroad is shown with three sample questions asking students to calculate the weight of a letter, parcel or package.

Follow Your Mail

This page tells students about Track and Trace and how it has made life easier for everyone when sending letters and parcels. It also explains the difference between Registered Post and Express Post.

This lesson plan activity will help students to develop their creative and writing skills and can be done in arts/crafts class. Students can make their own post box and decorate it. Or they can make a friendship card and draw a picture of the first stamp, the penny black.

Make your own Post Box 

What you will need:

• An empty shoebox
• Paint, paintbrushes and markers
• Sheets of white paper

What to do:

• Remove the lid of the shoebox 
• Cover the box and the lid with the paper
• Place the lid back on the box
• Cut a large slit in the top of the box.
• Using paints/ markers etc draw /colour in the box.
