Paralympic Cyclists on form in Spanish Europa Cup Event
The recently announced Irish Paralympic Cycling Squad were on form at this weekends Europa Cup Para-cycling road race and time trial in Segovia Spain.
LC1 cyclist Cathal Miller but in a great performance to win yesterday’s Time Trial landing his first Paralympic Cycling victory. Miller was unlucky in Saturday’s Road Race when he punctured after two laps ruling him out of contention for a podium finish in the General Classification.
Female tandem pairing of Catherine Walsh piloted by Fionnuala Ni Bhradaigh rode a great time trial to finish second yesterday making up for loosing out on a third place finish in the Road Race when the were pipped in the sprint for the line by the French tandem. Their second place yesterday was good enough to jump ahead of the French and take third overall in General Classification.
CP4 rider Enda Smyth matched his second place finish in Saturday’s road race with another fine second in yesterday’s Time Trial to secure second overall in GC.
Male Tandem pairing of Michael Delaney and David Peelo recently crowned Irish Tandem Time Trial Champions finished 13th in yesterdays Time Trial a gain of four places after missing the break in Saturday’s road race where they finished 17th.
The squad will now concentrate on the track for the next few weeks with the International Track Omnium and Irish National Track Championships in Sundrive Road during July. They partake in indoor Velodrome camps in Belgium and Wales during July and August before departing for Beijing and the Paralympic Games on August 24th.
