An Post to put pricing on a sustainable footing


6th December, 2016: The global trend of e-substitution for postal mail is impacting now on An Post’s business to the extent that significant losses in the mails business will result in An Post making a loss of €12-15m in 2016 and a much greater loss in 2017. These losses are not sustainable. Consequently An Post welcomes the statement by Minister Denis Naughten to provide An Post with the freedom required to bring its postal pricing in line with European peers by repealing the price cap mechanism.

Kicking off Christmas at the GPO


22 November, 2016: It’s officially Christmas at Dublin’s GPO as the Capital’s premier public building switches into full festive mode today.  Up to half a million visitors are expected to visit the GPO over the coming weeks.

Stamp of Approval for Irish Lights


6th October, 2016: An Post has issued four new stamps honouring the Commissioners of Irish Lights.  The new 72c stamps, a special first day cover envelope and booklet feature Irish Lights staff working on a buoy; a helicopter near Fanad Head Lighthouse; Irish Lights technology and the Irish Lights Vessel Granuaile.   Designed by Dublin’s Vermillion Design, the may be viewed and purchased at all main post offices and online at

An Post appoints David McRedmond as Group CEO


Dermot Divilly, Chairman of An Post, has announced the appointment of David McRedmond as Group Chief Executive of An Post to succeed Donal Connell who retired recently.  David was appointed following an extensive competitive search process overseen by the Board. He will take up the role at the beginning of October for a fixed seven-year term.

It’s ‘wheely’ all about the bike with Cycling In Ireland stamps.


As the 2016 Paralympics are in progress and three Irish paracyclists took medals in Rio yesterday, cycling is having a great impact on the country right now. An Post today, (Thursday 15th September) issued a set of stamps which recognise the growth in popularity of cycling in Ireland. 

The Pillar returns to O’Connell Street


Dublin 5th August, 2016: It’s back. Fifty years after it left the street, Nelson’s Pillar has returned to O’Connell Street, brick by tiny brick….LEGO bricks to be exact. The monument which dominated Dublin’s skyline for more than 150 years was infamously blown up in 1966.

The 2016 An Post/INTO Handwriting Competition has had another huge year with schools nationwide taking part. The challenge was met by pupils with 65,000 postal entries from primary and secondary schools around the country for the second year in a row.

New look and new location for Lusk


It’s all change for An Post in Lusk where the local post office has just taken up a prime location with a re-vamped office.Lusk’s post office has just moved to a new location at Supervalu, Station Road. The new office was formally ‘switched in’ to the national post office network linking it to more than 1,130 other post offices in the An Post national network.

1916-2016. Eighth Series of Definitive Stamps


On Easter Monday, 24 April 1916, around 1,000 poorly-armed members of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, Irish Volunteers, Irish Citizen Army and Cumann na mBan occupied the centre of Dublin and proclaimed the establishment of an Irish Republic. The rebellion ended within six days, leaving almost 500 dead, and much of the city-centre in ruins.

Tánaiste renews social welfare contract for Post Offices


The Tánaiste and Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, T.D. has announced today (Thursday, 28 January 2016) a further renewal of her Department’s contract for cash social welfare payments at Post Offices. The current contract was signed in December 2013 for an initial two years with an option for extension for a further four years on a yearly basis - total of six years.
