Bagdonas victorious in Belgium

Sam BennettGediminas Bagdonas triumphed in the Ronde Van Noord-Holland (1.2) yesterday (Sunday) in Belgium. The in-form rider sprinted clear with 20km to go, claiming victory by thirty five seconds. Waterford’s Sam Bennett of the An Post Sean Kelly team also produced his best performance of the season securing third place. Belgian riders Niko Eeckhout and Joren Segers came fifth and twelfth respectively in a very successful day out for the An Post Sean Kelly team.

Team manager Kurt Bogaerts was thrilled with the victory and with Bennett’s performance in particular.

“The result just shows that as a team we are very good shape at the moment. It’s not just one rider performing well but several are coming into top form now and showing it week in week out - It’s great to see”.

Bennett’s performance will serve as a much needed boost to the Irish rider after enduring a couple of tough months on the side-lines with a virus.

“I though Sam was brilliant today,” Bogaerts said. “It’s been a frustrating few months for him. He was in such good form at the training camp before the start of the season and then to suffer a setback with illness is hard but he’s kept on working and always kept that belief in his ability, so I am delighted for him”.

“This performance will bring him real confidence and comes at a great time in the build-up to the An Post Rás which is the key focus of ours now,” Bogaerts added.

The An Post Sean Kelly team will have a training period of two weeks now ahead of their next race.
