Ronan McLaughlin is set to line out with the An Post Chain Reaction Sean Kelly team at tomorrow’s (Friday March 1) Driedaagse van West-Vlaandren (2.1) in Belgium.
The Donegal native will line out as part of an eight man team at the three day race alongside British rider Mark McNally, Australia’s Glenn O’Shea - who is currently making the transition from track to road racing – and the Belgian quintet of Niko Eeckhout, Nicholas Vereecken, Alphonse Vermote, Niels Wytinck and Steven Van Vooren.
The race will begin with a short time trial along the coast of Belgium followed by two days of stage racing. A number of top class riders will feature, including Mark Cavendish and former An Post rider Gediminas Bagdonas but team manager Kurt Bogaerts is confident his riders can pick up a good result.
“It’s a tough field, full of world class riders but we have enough quality to compete with the big teams. Niko won a couple of stages here before and I think a lot will depend on the weather and if it comes down to a bunch sprint. We will definitely aim to be up there in the general classification and win a stage”.
