2012 is approaching and what could be the best season yet for the An Post Grant Thornton M. Donnelly Sean Kelly team is now just weeks away. The riders are currently at a training camp in Calpe, and will remain there working hard until Tuesday.

Many of those who raced with the team in 2011 are back once again, including two strong riders who had expected to leave. An Post Rás winner Gediminas Bagdonas and Mark McNally, the Briton who won the Mi-Août en Bretagne.

Several younger riders will make their debuts with the team early next year; this number includes the promising Irish rider Sean Downey, who has been racing with a French team, and who is believed to be a big prospect for the future.

Also signing up is the Manx rider Jonny Bellis, who moves across from the Saxo Bank SunGard setup.

Apart from Downey, there will be four other Irish riders on the squad. Sam Bennett, Ronan McLaughlin, Mark Cassidy and Connor McConvey are all returning, the latter having rejoined the team at the end of last season. He had taken time away from the bike but got his motivation back and began racing once again.

New team kit on the way

Currently clad in the 2011 team colours, a new look is on the way and will make its official debut after Christmas. Given that An Post remains the major sponsor, it will continue to be predominantly green, but the new version will feature a slightly different colour scheme. The kit has been designed by new supplier Ultimate Clothing, a Dublin-based company sourcing top quality materials from abroad.

While the finished jersey is not yet available, the kit blueprints plus material samples show off the tweaked look, and give a good idea of how things will come together.

The team should be in the new clothing by the next training camp in January.
