Ready, Steady, Cycle week two 40 to 60km

 Preparation

So, first week out of the way. Let’s hope you got out and started on the bike for a spin. No excuses with the great weather we’ve been having!  If you haven’t started, then get going! With only 5 weeks left you can’t leave it any later. There are no shortcuts in cycling. On the day you either have the training miles done and are prepared or you don’t and it’s tough going! So let’s get out there!

 Nutrition

It’s a great opportunity to use these next 5 weeks to shed a few unwanted pounds. Eat healthy and regularly and with the training this should be a good kick start towards a healthy summer ahead.

 Equipment

If the weather is mild and sunny don’t forget you’ll need a bit of protection to avoid ending up with red arms and face after the weekend spin!  It can happen so easy when you’re out on the bike sweating in the wind and sun for even 60-90mins.  So use a good waterproof sunscreen if it’s a nice sunny day. Hopefully the good forecast continues and this advice is needed for a bit longer!

 Training

You should have started last week with a short 30mins to 60mins spin to begin.  Hopefully you’ve gotten between two and three cycles of 30-60mins done already.

Now to improve on that you need to continue with the same time for 1-2spins and just try to go at a slightly higher pace overall.

For the weekend aim to do one 1.5-2Hour spin.  Remember to keep the gear light and to spin the legs fast.  And keep the spin continuous with as little stops as possible. Consistency is the key.
