New stamp to mark Ireland’s hosting of The Solheim Cup

Meath: September 20, 2011: Top international golfers Suzann Pettersen (Europe) and Michelle Wie (America) today unveiled a new 55c stamp on which they both mark Ireland’s first hosting of The Solheim Cup at Killeen Castle, Co Meath this week.

The Dunsany championship golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus is staging the European team’s attempt to reclaim the bi-annual Perpetual Trophy, the women’s equivalent of the Ryder Cup from the Americans.

The stamp and first day cover were designed by Dublin Company Q Design. They may be viewed and purchased at www.irishstamps.ie , at the GPO, Dublin, main Post Offices and by phone at (01) 7057400. The stamp will also feature in the 2011 Irish Stamp Year Book, available to buy on-line from November 24th.
